Tony CraneA very scanty biographyReal name: J. Anthony Crane. Born: 19 October, 1972, Los Angeles, California - which made him only 23 when he first starred in The Big Easy! Family: Son of Paul H. Crane, and Susan E. Crane. Oldest brother to Greg, Caitlyn, Alanna, Danielle, and Alex. He is also an accomplished painter and photographer - you can see his work at Art by Jacob. He started doing plays in highschool. Later, he attended Northwestern University in Chicago and attained a BS in Theatre. While there, he was in several Shakespearean productions and other plays such as "Our Country's Good" and "The Glass Menagerie." He has worked on stage both in California and New York. Further training: Royal National Theatre of London. Member of AEA (Actors Equity Association). Buy a date!February 1998, Tony Crane participated in the Celebrity Bachelors Auction fund raiser to benefit the "Big Brothers of Greater Los Angeles". Don't know how much he sold for though ;-)From YM Magazine, September 1997:Fave date:Cruising the French Quarter in New Orleans, piling on the blossoms, and hopping a horse-and-carriage ride. Do you get to play hearts and flowers a lot on The Big Easy? "Yeah, I once had a date in the French Quarter where we ate raw oysters at a place with fountains in the back. It's easy to be romantic in New Orleans." Do you like it when girls ask you out? "I love it. I'd much rather a girl just invite me somewhere than spend the rest of my life not knowing whether she was into me." Are TV love scenes hard to do? "I just had my first one ever, and it was strange. We were in the shower, but 250 people were watching. The actress was so cool. I gave her flowers, just to say thanks." Defending his moustache- February 2004 in Seattle Times, by Leslie KorenConsider the current reality of New York City actor J. Anthony Crane, 32 and playing the role of Dimitry in the Off-Broadway production of "The Brothers Karamazov Part II." It is a rich role, but one that requires a mustache - and explanation in social settings. "I'm in a play. I'm in a play," he says as he notices an unfamiliar female's gaze. Message from Tony:(from Eetle's website - reproduced here with her permission.)I just wanted to drop all you "New Orleans Saints" a big hello and a hug and kiss! Somebody just showed me the way to this page and I've been reading all your generous, funny, and touching notes. Gosh, thank you so much for all your support, for me and for the show which unfortunately, as you all have so rightly put it, never got to see its wings open full span. I am glad though to see it has reached across the continenets and dirtied the waters overseas! I know you all have been wondering what I've been up to the past few years and the best I can tell you is I am happy and working a lot as an actor. As one of you have noticed, I was in a play in Los Angeles this past summer, which won the L.A. critics' award for best play (getting big-headed). *** I have been working consistently in theatre in Los Angeles and New York, as well as performing in one-person shows regularly. I have appeared in 5 independent films in the past 3 years, all of which ran their course in the film festival world but never saw the big screen. I will appear in Al Pacino's new film, "Simone" this fall. Mostly I have been involved in television and my work on "The Big Easy" has not gone unnoticed. I have screen-tested for countless new shows in the past few years, including "C.S.I.", "The West Wing", "Snoops," and "Boston Public". It's only a matter of time and a little gris-gris, I reckon, until I have a new place to perform regularly. Until then, I hang with the cats, paint, burn CD's, edit music videos, cook, travel, take road trips, write, ride my Triumph, play basketball, golf, and poker, supervise volunteers to plant trees for Treepeople, find families for abandoned pets, watch and play music, watch my 9 year old brother Alex grow up, and study the old-fogey arts of fencing and bullfighting. I guess it keeps me busy, but what I really want to do is get back on screen and give you all something great to thank you for your incredible attention. Thanks Again, merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily...., J. Anthony Wednesday, February 6th 2002 - 11:34:12 AM *** That would be The Scarecrow. |
