ASC - American Society of Cinematographers. They give out the ASC award. As the youngest photographer ever, Storaro, born in 1940, was awarded the lifetime award in 2001, and along with Sven Nykvist, they are the only non-americans to receive this award. His acceptance speech is available on the website. ASC members have written lists of their tips and trick and which movies have inspired them - and there is a photo of their cosy little clubhouse. For the cinematography student, there is a bunch of very interesting chat transcripts and interviews, as well as some Industry Safety Bulletins - such as how to work safely in extreme cold and heat, working with babies, with exotic reptiles, and they recommend NOT using an orange crate as a doorstep to a dressing room ;-). They also have discussion boards with Tech Tips on such subjects as 'From Candlelight to Daylight', 'Lens Personalities' and 'The Future of Cinema'. ICG also have a great links section with links to other cinamatographer webpages. A search on Google with the word 'cinematographers' will give a long list of other cinematographer unions. Danish film sites- all in Danish, but here they are anyway:Filmhuset i København Filmmedarbejderforeningen - the reviewers who award the Bodil. Settet.dk Danskefilm.dk - with forum The Filmschool. And finally - a few of my friends :Gabriels ord (Gabriel's Word) - a Danish short film that premiered 7 November, 2002. It gives an interesting glimpse into producing a movie with effects on a shoestring budget. In Danish.Gabriel's Word is directed by David Bjerre - read more about him on IMDB His and Uffe's fansite for the cute Taiwanese actress Shu Qi - their filmography is more complete than IMDB! |
