"The league of Extraordinary Gentlemen" -
filmed in Prague summer of 2002 - during the flood!

The Story
At the end of the 19th century, five flawed (some very much more than others) and dark heroes covertly defend the empire from evil criminal masterminds. These heroes are all literary creations by diverse authors - Bram Stoker's Mina Murray (married name Harker), H.G. Well's Invisible Man - well, almost, Jules Verne's Captain Nemo, H. Rider Haggard's Alan Quatermain and Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and mr. Hyde.

But in the movie, it's seven heroes!
The script sounds like it will be somewhat different from the comic book. An American police detective, Thomas Sawyer (from the books by Mark Twain) - the grown up Tom Sawyer - has been added. Also Dorian Grey (an Oscar Wilde character), who is not featured until later in the saga of LoEG has been brought in early. The League is led by a woman in the comic, but her role in the movie looks less central.
Another comic by Alan Moore was recently filmed, "From Hell", starring
Johnny Depp. It was not a big favorite with fans of the comic - let's hope
LoEG fares better.

Behind the Camera
Filming is scheduled to start in June in Prague, the Czech Republic.
Shooting will last 12-13 weeks in Prague and will then move to Iceland and Marocco.
Budget is $80 million. Filming in Prague instead on in the US, wil lmake the budget seem three times as big.

Since Dan Laustsen has already filmed in Africa (Running Free - in the Namibian desert) and in colder climes (Heart of Light - on Greenland), he should have no problems filming in Morocco and on Iceland.

Premiere
US premiere 11 July, 2003. Danish premiere 10 October. More release dates on IMDB

The Actors
I have no idea whether all characters from the comic will be in the movie - time will tell.
The pictures are of the characters as they probably appeared in the novels, so they might all look older in the movie.
For a list of actors who have been under consideration, check Miqqe on the Web and Upcomingmovies, listed in the links section.

The Director
Stephen Norrington
So far, the only movie seen made by Norrington, is Blade.
Born 1965.
More details about his movies on IMDB . Funny coincidence: Dan Laustsen was offered the job as cinematographer of "Blade 2", but preferred to film the historical drama "I am Dina" with old collaborator, director Ole Bornedal. Lausten already worked with "Blade 2" director Guillermo del Toro on Mimic in 1997.

The Comic book
Written by Alan Moore , drawn by Kevin O'Neill, colored by Benedict Dimagmaliw and lettered by William Oakley.
The first issue of the next six-part LoEG saga is out now - end of July, 2002.
It brings together the different planet Mars of Edwin L. Arnold, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Edward P. Bradbury, C.S. Lewis, H. G. Wells and others.
